Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

KeyDate (“we”, “us”) provides an educational planning tool for Canadian first-time home buyers at keydate.ca. For privacy questions, contact keydateadmin@gmail.com.

2. What we collect

• Plan information you enter — location, household income, savings, monthly saving amount, target home type and price. Used to calculate your estimates.
• Account information — if you sign in with Google or Facebook, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from that provider. We never receive your password.
• Community content — posts, replies, likes, follows, saved posts, and any photos or videos you choose to upload.
• Waitlist email — if you join the beta waitlist.
• Limited technical data — an anonymous device identifier and timestamps, so we can count how many people use the app.
• Product usage events — a short, fixed list of in-app actions (for example: opened the app, created a plan, logged savings, finished a lesson) recorded against that anonymous device identifier. We use these only to see which parts of KeyDate work and which don't. They carry no free-form content and no personal information, they are never sold or shared, and we do not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics services.
• Bank information (only if you connect an account) — where offered, balances are read through a regulated aggregation provider. We receive read-only balance data. We never receive your banking credentials and cannot move money.

3. How we use it

• To generate your plan, keys-date estimate, and progress tracking.
• To sync your plan across your devices when you’re signed in.
• To operate the community (showing your posts, notifying you of replies).
• To understand aggregate, de-identified usage so we can improve the product.
• To contact you about the beta if you asked us to.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share your individual financial figures with lenders, brokers, or real-estate professionals.

4. Legal basis and consent (Canada)

KeyDate operates from Alberta, Canada. We handle personal information in accordance with Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), and other applicable provincial privacy laws. We collect and use your information with your consent, which you give by using the app and which you may withdraw at any time by deleting your account.

5. Service providers

We use third parties to run the service, including a hosting provider, a database and authentication provider (Supabase), and your chosen sign-in provider (Google or Facebook). These providers process data on our behalf under their own terms and safeguards. If bank connections are enabled, a regulated aggregation provider is used for read-only balance access.

6. Where your data is stored

Your data may be stored or processed on servers located outside Canada, including in the United States, and may be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions.

7. Retention

We keep your plan and account data while your account is active. Delete your account and we remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we must retain something to meet a legal obligation. Community posts you made may remain visible unless you delete them first.

8. Your rights

You can access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and withdraw consent, by emailing keydateadmin@gmail.com. You may also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

9. Security

We use encryption in transit, row-level database access controls so users can only reach their own records, and access restrictions on administrative tools. No system is perfectly secure, and we don’t claim otherwise.

10. Children

KeyDate is not directed at children under 16 and we don’t knowingly collect their information.

11. Changes

We’ll update this page and change the date above when this policy changes. Material changes will be highlighted in the app.
